Man Who Defaced Miami Campaign Sign Released

A man arrested for defacing a campaign poster of Miami mayoral candidate Francis Suarez said he did it because he disliked Suarez capitalizing on the death of a local graffiti artist.

Kevin Kiernan Young, 28, who bonded out of jail over the weekend, had drawn the letters “U” and “D” over Suarez’s first name to read “fraudis” instead of “Francis” and had added “RIP Reffa,” a reference to street artist Israel Hernandez-Llach’s tag name, Reefa. Hernandez-Llach died at the hands of a Miami Beach police last week.

Last week, Suarez came under fire over a tweet where he used the death of Hernandez-Llach to attack Mayor Tomás Regalado. Suarez later apologized.
